Printmaking in the Community

On April 5th, I’ll be hosting a panel discussion for the SGC International printmaking conference in Providence, RI, USA. You can register here, with more information below:

Join the roundtable discussion "Printmaking in the Community." It shares interviews from printmakers from around the world, including those in attendance, about how printmaking is a particularly communal process. Beginning with the history of printmaking, each new process became a tool for advancing the sharing of information in communities. This includes the impact of the Gutenberg Press for books and screen printing for posters. We'll talk about how printmakers contribute to their community today through illustration, bookmaking, posters, art markets, workshops, print exchanges, sharing tips on the internet, their importance in the classroom and in art therapy, and bringing people together at conferences such as in Providence.

Effugere Rem

I recently finished printing a small edition of my largest linocut to date. It’s a triptych scene of life in a bottle.

Recent Sketches

I try to sketch every day, and here are some recent pages from my sketchbook. I don’t know if any of them will turn into larger concepts, so for now, they’re just the results of general creative process. Lately, a lot of my sketches come from random thoughts and phrases I’ve been thinking about.

Nice Try: A Brief History of Failure

My newest publication is NICE TRY: A Brief History of Failure for the annual comic book anthology Corniche by Sharjah Art Foundation, where I have work featured alongside other UAE-based comic illustrators. It’s short, and there are lots more tales to explore, so I may be expanding it into a bigger project.

Student Painting Exhibition at AUD

Now viewable in the American University in Dubai rotunda gallery, an exhibition of my students’ paintings from this semester. So far, they’ve made a series of paintings inspired by modern art styles, explored abstraction of a subject, and painted a figure from observation. I’m looking forward to seeing what they make for their final projects.

Collagraph Printmaking Workshop

Collagraph printmaking is a great way to explore texture and spontaneous arrangement. Find any collage materials and make a print out of it! Or you can try it this weekend at my workshop. I’ll bring the materials, you roll it with ink and press it!

12-2pm Sunday November 26th, Alserkal Avenue in The Yard.
